Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Out Now, Owners Of The Original Game On PC Get It Free

Get wrecking!

Remember Red Faction Guerrilla, first released in 2009? This was the game developers Volition was known for before Saints Row becomes its biggest title, but the rights to the title is now under THQNordic after THQ went bankrupt. Despite not having the original developers- they are now under Deep Silver- the game was re-released on PC in 2014 with some quality of life updates and Steam Workshop support.

Now the game receives a remaster for the current generation of consoles. Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered (ha ha…) is the same game you may love- an open world action game with the main highlight being its very destructible buildings all powered by the Geomod physics engine.

The remaster reworked the graphics with new textures and improved shadow, lighting, shaders and postprocessing effects. The PS4 and Xbox One can run the game at 60fps – running at 1080p and 900p respectively. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X can also run the game at 4K at 30fps or priotise 60fps with a resolution of 1500p and 1800p respectively.

For PC players who owned Red Faction: Guerrilla already, then surprise! You are getting the re-mars-ter free of charge. Your game will be updated to the this edition automatically on Steam. The PC version can run the game at up to full 4K if you have a rig capable enough to do so.

While remastering a game can feel like an act of milking the same game over and over for pure profits, at least in this case it means that THQNordic is leveraging its acquired IP rather than squatting it and doing nothing.

Moreover, it’s nice that PC players don’t need to buy the same remastered edition of the same game again- like what Bioshock Remastered and Skyrim (for those that bought all the DLCs) did, so good on THQNordic giving this as a free upgrade to PC players.
