Red Dead Redemption II Special Edition Offers Extra Story Mode Content, Hints Of Online Mode

50

Red Dead Redemption II is available for pre-orders, but the bonuses included from the various editions have revealed that there will at least one Story mode content locked behind a higher end edition- more than the usual $60 USD.

The Special Edition of Red Dead Redemption II will include various cosmetics and optional game bonuses, including accessories that boost protagonist Arthur Morgan’s abilities, cosmetic outfits and access to some weapons for free.

Here’s the items list:

  • Eagle Talon Talisman- Arthur’s environmental awareness skill will last longer
  • Iguana Scale – Arthur will take less damage while riding on horseback
  • The Core Stat boost-  benefits Arthur’s Stamina, Health and Dead Eye Cores
  • Cash Bonuses- Earn more cash during robbery missions with the Van der Linde gang, and when hunting and selling animal carcasses
  • Discounts – Receive discounts on all upgrades to the Van der Linde gang’s camp
  • Free Access to Additional Weapons- Volcanic Pistol, Pump Action Shotgun, Lancaster Varmint Rifle
  • Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger Outfit
  • Dappled Black Thoroughbred
  • Nuevo Paraiso Saddle

The interesting part is the additional Bank Robbery mission and Gang Hideout available for Special Edition and above. The exclusive mission will have Arthur and his gang members plan and then rob a bank in Rhodes. The Gang Hideout mission will have them clear out a hacienda controlled by the Del Lobos Gang.

The Ultimate Edition, another tier up from Special Edition, has all of these contents plus more that will be used within the Online mode. Rockstar has yet to specified what the Online mode will be, but it’s a safe bet to assume it will be something similar to what we’ve seen in GTA Online.

Speaking of which, any pre-order will net you some GTA$ for use in GTA Online:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Standard Edition Digital Pre-Order: Get GTA$500,000
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Special Edition Digital Pre-Order: Get GTA$1,000,000
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition Digital Pre-Order: Get GTA$2,000,000

While we don’t really encourage pre-orders over here, but this is the first we see mention that Arthur has stats that can be improved by equipping items. Plus, having exclusive single-player content in the way of the two missions is an interesting choice, one that could entice players to pre-order.

Hopefully some of these content will be available as DLC upgrades to the standard version of the game. Red Dead Redemption II rides to the stores on October 26th for the PS4 and Xbox One.
