Ratchet & Clank 2016 To Receive PS4 Pro Support Soon

Ratchet & Clank 2016, the game based on the (mediocre) movie based on the (great) game, will receive and update to support PS4 Pro anytime soon. Based on the blog post over at Playstation Blog, developers Insomniac Games is making use of the added hardware power to allow higher resolutions (they did not say 4K, because it’s probably not native 4K even though it will look better on 4K TVs) and better graphical quality on normal 1080p TVs. HDR will also come with the update, so regular PS4 players don’t miss out that much.

It’s unfortunate that the added hardware didn’t result in an increase in frame-rate. As it is, the 30fps is solid, but it’s a bit of getting used to if you’ve played most of the Ratchet games in the PS2 and PS3 era where there are all 60fps. Though it could be that the requirements for feature parity for both regular PS4 and the PS4 Pro might limit that, or it’s just not enough power to get the beautiful vistas and crazy explosion effects to run at 60fps.

It’s better than nothing, and it’s a good reason to replay a solid platformer slash third-person shooter. We gave it a glowing review praising it’s authentic look to the original and the shooting being as fun as ever, though the experience is hampered to the writing of the movie and too much audio barks. It’s still worth playing, and good thing is, you could finish it in a weekend of solid play.
