It looks like potion-brewing has slowly but surely becoming a new theme and genre for games these days. Developer Stumbling Cat is concocting one right now in the form of Potions: A Curious Tale, which now has a limited-time demo (as part of Steam Next Fest) and also a release date.
In Potions: A Curious Tale, you play as Luna, a young witch with the knack of potion crafting. Together with her pet companion Helios, Luna will be collecting rare ingredients from fruits, plants and even monsters to brew the best potions she can.
Brewing potions involves not only combining ingredients, but also solving puzzles. The moment-to-moment gameplay does involve some combat using the potions you brewed. So it’s a more straight-forward take on the potion-brewing sub-genre where we have seen games with haggling mechanics (Potionomics), intricate brewing mechanics (Potion Craft) and an automation/factory builder system (The Magical Mixture Mill).
Potions: A Curious Tale will be released on March 7 on PC (Steam). Try out the demo here.
