Following the reveal of Playstation VR’s price and release window at GDC, more details have surfaced on Sony’s new device.
All current Playstation 4 games can be playing using PS VR; this is made possible via a “Cinematic Mode”, which simulates a 5m screen within a virtual space, Sony announced.
There is no doubt Sony plans to support PS VR with already over 230 developers working on PS VR titles; However, the added functionality of PS VR being able to render all standard PS4 games within the virtual space is an added boon. A press release from Sony stated that:
“Users can enjoy content on a virtual screen up to 225 inches (5 meters in width) at a distance of 2.5 meters, users will also be able to enjoy 360 degrees photos and videos that are captured by devices such as omnidirectional cameras on PS VR via PS4 Media Player, which will let them feel as if they are physically inside the captured scene.”
In addition to games, users of PS VR are also able to watch movies within the virtual space as well, functions like Share Play and Live From Playstation are also compatible.
Announced PS VR games already include Star Wars Battlefront, EVE: Valkyrie, Rez Infinite and RIGS: Mechanized Combat League among others. Stay tuned when the pricing and confirmed release date is revealed for the Asia region; we will keep you posted!
