Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis Launches On June 9

The big new version of free-to-play MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2 now has a release date.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be live worldwide on June 9.

PSO2 servers were scheduled to be in maintenance on that date, but with the big content drop coming, it will be moved forward by one or two days.

“The Road To New Genesis” login event within PSO2 will some changes as a result.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis is an all-new version of PSO2, but will exist alongside the base version. New Genesis features vastly improved graphics, a new “open-field” to explore and fight in, a new story with new sets of characters to meet and many tweaks and fundamental changes to the core gameplay seen in PSO2.

Think of it like when Final Fantasy XIV decided to nuke version 1.0 to make A Realm Reborn, but instead of nuking it, version 1.0 still exists and players can move characters between the two game versions. That’s essentially what New Genesis is.

The launch will be a simultaneous release for Japan and global servers.

Players can get a head start with character customisation, or test their PC rig, with a standalone character creator and benchmark tool client now available.

The launch is just the start of New Genesis, as the developers have shared a content roadmap on what to expect with PSO2 NGS post-launch, including a release window when new classes are coming.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be available globally on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows 10) and Xbox One.
