Square Enix has released the original Octopath Traveler on PlayStation (PS4, PS5), and Octopath Traveler II on Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S).
As a result, the two Octopath Traveler games are now finally on all modern consoles as well as on PC.
Previously, Octopath Traveler was a Switch exclusive in 2018 with a PC release appearing a year later. It then was released on Xbox (as well as on Game Pass) in 2021.
When the sequel was released in 2023, it was available on PS4, PS5, Switch and PC, skipping Xbox (and Game Pass).
All is well now, as both games are now available on PlayStation and Xbox. Both games can be purchased as a 2-in-1 bundle on PlayStation, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox.
Also, Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are now available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. The first game had been removed from the game subscription service a while back, and now it’s back so you can play that and its sequel.
The Octopath Traveler series is an inventive twist to the JRPG formula. Each game is set in a different world with eight playable characters. At the start of the game, you can pick one as a starting character and follow their origin story and make your around the map to recruit the rest of the party members, all located in a town based on the eight cardinal directions.
The series is one of the games that uses an art style which Square Enix dubs as “HD-2D” graphics, which combines 2D sprite art work for characters with 3D environments that still retain that 2D-sprite-style charm.
Each character has a specific job class that brings a unique ability in its turn-based combat, as well as the world exploration. Also, each of the character’s names begins with a letter that spells out “Octopath”.
New Update To Octopath Traveler II
Also, with this recent release, Octopath Traveler II received a new update on all platforms. This update adds “Extra Battle Mode”, available after defeating the final boss fight and selected from the game’s title screen.
This allows players to test their skills against tougher opponents, including characters from the original Octopath Traveler. The new Xbox release will come with this content- no extra download required.
Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are now available on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The two games are also on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
The Octopath Traveler series is co-developed by Acquire Corp. and Square Enix’s Team Asano. Acquire Corp. recently released their own independent game, C.A.R.D.S. RPG.
