New Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Update Adds Optimisation For Wolfenstein II

For PC gamers running AMD cards, there’s a new update to the Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition. The new graphics driver update adds a few optimisations for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

In addition, Wolfenstein II also supports the Vulkan API. This is an alternative to DirectX which interfaces more directly to the GPU. We have seen support for Vulkan in Doom last year, another Bethesda game that is running on the same engine used in Wolfenstein II.

Here are the enhancements that are available through use of the Vulkan API:

  • Asynchronous Shaders – The Asynchronous Compute Engines in AMD’s GCN and Polaris GPU architectures can submit commands without waiting for other tasks to complete
  • Rapid Packed Math – Doubles the rate of compute allowing for faster physics and compute calculations on Vega class GPUs
  • Clustered forward rendering – A light culling method that allows the convenience of forward rendering, requires a single geometry pass, and efficiently handles high light counts, minimizing CPU usage.

There is also a beta patch for Wolfenstein II that should fix several issues.
