Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be coming to the PS5 in an odd way for now: a bonus for getting the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It won’t be a free next-gen upgrade for existing owners of Spider-Man on PS4, and save files won’t carry over either- it’s a new game with its own platinum trophy.
Now we get to see how the remaster will actually look like running on PS5. And there’s plenty of improvements: glass from windows reflect more of the scenery thanks to ray-tracing, it can now run on silky 60fps in performance mode and a denser city with more traffic and pedestrians.
The comparison trailer here shows a similar snippet of gameplay when Spider-Man PS4 was being previewed. And it looks good.
The curious change to Spider-Man’s Remastered is how Peter Parker looks. When Insomniac Games earlier hinted on improved character models, we didn’t expect a full face change.
Peter Parker’s face on Spider-Man PS5 is now modelled after Ben Jordan instead of John Bubniak from PS4. This is done “to get a better match to Peter Parker/Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal’s facial capture.”
Now Peter looks even younger, and similar to the Tom Holland who plays Spidey in the current Marvel movies. Interesting that Insomniac has to recast the face model for the PS5 remaster.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will launch on November 12 for the PS5, but the only way to get it is to buy the more expensive version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
