Back 4 Blood is Turtle Rock Studios’ return to the co-op zombie shooter they help popularised. But this new title is doing more than just a Left 4 Dead spiritual successor.
The latest trailer gives you a rundown of the 8 playable characters, Cleaners as they call themselves, in Back 4 Blood. That’s already more than the 4 in both Left 4 Deads, but these characters also have gameplay boosts.
Some have general boosts fit for any occasion. For example, the no-nonsense Walker can get more accurate shots as he continues to land precision shots. And the prepper Hoffman who can spawn bullets for each kill.
There are also more specific bonuses like Jim, who has faster aim-down-sights (ADS), making him perfect if you want to play sniper. And Holly is great for melee combat as she recovers stamina for each kill.
The trailer gives a good glimpse of each of the 8 Cleaner’s personality (and quips), and also show some of the elite zombies you’ll be blasting to bits throughout the game:
Back 4 Blood will be incorporating a card modifier system that can give buffs and debuffs on the Cleaners or the zombie horde (called Ridden in this game), which can alter how the same level will play out in subsequent plays.
Pair this with a cast of characters that’s double the amount of your squad size, as well each having different perks and you can see why replayability is being heavily touted for Back 4 Blood.
Back 4 Blood will be out on October 12 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
