Need A Budget Gaming Laptop? Illegear’s New Q5 Evo Starts At RM3,999

Illegear is one of the many custom PC manufacturers in the market, though the twist is they only make custom laptops and are based here in Malaysia. While their range of custom laptops before might be suitable for the gamer with a bigger budget, they now are offering their cheapest entry point yet.

Enter the new Q5 Evo. Starting at RM3999, this laptop is a pretty solid beast. Nvidia GTX 1050 (or the better performing 1050 Ti) and 7th-gen Intel i5 Kabylake are the GPU and CPU combo here, which is more than enough to run today’s performance demanding AAA games at a decent framerate, and is more than enough for games like Dota 2 and CS:GO.

Aside from that, the cheapest entry here comes equipped with 15.6″ FHD IPS display (1920×1080 resolution), 4GB of DDR4 RAM, 7200rpm HDD with 1TB of space, 2 slots for M.2, RGB keyboard and Windows 10. Not too shabby, though you probably need to add another stick of RAM.

There are three other spec variants, with the highest sporting an i7-7700HQ and Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti.

Since this is Illegear, they also provide some customisation options. Don’t expect custom decals or other premium stuff seen on their higher tier laptops, but if you need to switch that 4GB RAM to a stick of 8GB, that’s a RM119 upgrade. You can add more if you like, and throw in an additional M.2 SSD too in the package.

RM4,000 is still a big asking price for a budget gaming laptop, but for what Illegear is offering, it’s preatty reasonable. The GTX 1050 is a pretty powerful card despite the 50 tag which usually suggest otherwise. Good to see more manufacturers that are listening to the market- there is a demand for cheaper gaming laptops.
