Mike Morhaime, founder of Blizzard and its former CEO has founded a new game company named Dreamhaven. Alongside various industry veterans, most of them having worked at Blizzard before, Dreamhaven includes two different development studio under its wings: Moonshot Games and Secret Door.
“I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries,” said Dreamhaven CEO Mike Morhaime. “We look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”
As for Dreamhaven’s new studios, Moonshot Games is led by Jason Chayes (Blizzard, EA), Dustin Browder (StarCraft II, Heroes Of The Storm, Command & Conquer, Lord Of The Rings), and Ben Thompson (Hearthstone, World Of Warcraft trading card game, Magic: The Gathering).
Meanwhile, Secret Door has Chris Sigaty (Hearthstone, StarCraft II, Heroes Of The Storm, Warcraft III), Alan Dabiri (Warcraft III, World Of Warcraft, StarCraft) and Eric Dodds (Warcraft III, StarCraft II, Heroes Of The Storm) in the leadership role.
As you can see, most of the headlining talents have a common background: Blizzard. Dreamhaven will be based in Irvine, California, USA, also the home to Blizzard.
Are we seeing the new dawn of New Blizzard here? The renowned publisher/developer that made StarCraft, WarCraft and Diablo are not doing that hot in the public reception currently. And it’s interesting to see the many folks that left the door has now founded a new game company together.
It’s still early days to know what exactly Dreamhaven and its current two studios are making, but this is something worth keeping an eye on.
