Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, like Yakuza: Like A Dragon before it, will be a turn-based RPG. Which can may and still be a bummer for diehard fans who prefer the real-time action brawler gameplay the series was known for.
But thankfully, in Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, you can get a little taste of that freeform combat from past games if Kazuma Kiryu is in the party.
A new gameplay footage of Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth posted by IGN shows that Kiryu plays a little different than your other party members. His job (class), Dragon Of Dojima, allows him to switch between three styles (Rush, Yakuza, Beast), a throwback to Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. The styles changes his attacks. Rush allows Kiryu to attack twice, while Beast lets him grapple enemies, breaking their guard.
And of course, as seen in the gameplay trailer, Kiryu can build up “Hype Meter” to use Dragon’s Resurgence. This is the game-breaking move where the command menu literally breaks, allowing Kiryu to freely attack via direct button presses. It runs on a timer.
The enemy doesn’t fight back, so this isn’t turning the game back into Yakuza, but more of a nice homage, by making this a super move.
For fans who yearn for real-time combat, Like A Dragon Gaiden is coming this November, which still allows Kiryu to bust out his moves freely.
Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth will be out on January 26 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
