Have you ever stare outside on a sunny day and imagine a being that can jump from shadow to shadow?
It’s a highly specific thing to imagine, but alongside imagining something running alongside your view out of a moving transport, it’s a specific imagination many folks may have had.
And developers Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman thought it’s a good idea for a video game. It is.
And it looks like it is when you look at Schim. It’s basically a 3D platformer. But the platforms are shadows from either stationary objects or moving ones. It’s an inventive idea and from the release date trailer, looks to be executed well.
You’ll be jumping from shadow to shadow in various expected shadows (pedestrians, moving vehicles) and unexpected ones (on a golf ball, into shadows that only appear thanks to flickering light). The high contrast art style looks good to.
Schim releases on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on July 18.
