In a surprise move, Amplitude’s upcoming historical 4X strategy game Humankind is coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC.
Humankind is releasing in a week’s time, and it’s only now that any news of it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass.
This is a similar case with People Can Fly’s looter-shooter Outriders, which only got announced to be coming on Xbox Game Pass on launch when it’s closer to launch.
Understandably, since these are big-budget games from third-party publishers, they likely want to drive direct sales first before courting any Game Pass subscribers.
But if now that we have a few instances of big games doing this, Xbox Game Pass subscribers should probably hold off any pre-orders for games that they prefer to just have on the subscription.
However, if you’re dead-set in owning those games anyway, this shouldn’t affect your purchasing decision. Again, this move is likely to court new players to give it a go for the low low price of their monthly/annual subscription price.
Humankind is coming to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store) on August 17. For Asia, the release is one day later, on August 18.
