A new update to Hitman 3’s Year 2 roadmap revealed two major announcements.
First, the major Freelancer mode which turns the sandbox stealth assassination game into sort of a roguelike (minus the random generated maps bit) is delayed until the latter half of 2022.
Developers IO Interactive describes in their blog post as “a luxurious decision for us to make” thanks to the success of Hitman 3, so they are under no pressure of releasing the new mode to drive sales.
Freelancer mode is currently being playtested, with builds given to core community members to test in their home setups. So hopefully, the launch will hopefully go smooth with the extended playtests.
The other is some good news. In its place, the teased “Rocky” map, now called Ambrose Island, is set for release in July this year.
Ambrose Island will set place before the events of Hitman 3, and “fills in a few gaps from the World of Assassination storyline”.
Later this month, a game update will be adding ray-tracing on PC.
Hitman 3 will be the last Hitman in a while, so it’s good to see IO continues to provide some post-launch content years after release.
