Global Farmer Is City Builder-Style Farming Simulator Where Location Matters

Developer Thera Bytes and publisher Aerosoft have announced their upcoming game Global Farmer. It’s a farming simulator of sorts, but not in the first-person perspective as established by the Farming Simulator series. Rather, it’s a top-down strategy game ala a city builder.

But Global Farmer really is a farming simulator, in the sense that it uses real-world data in its gameplay and its depiction of the agricultural is based on reality.

As the name implies, Global Farmer lets you be a farmer in any part of the world. Using OpenStreetMap data, you can pick a location from the real world and build your farm there. The trailer highlights not only Europe (where farming simulators are all the rage), but also places like Japan and the Americas as possible farm locations.

Global Farmer will also incorporate real-world data based on your farm’s location, to reflect how farmers in that part of the world operate, ranging from soil conditions to seasonal fluctuations.

Expect to manage fleets of farming equipment including tractors as well as silos and warehouses for crop storage. Crops are then sold via fulfilling contracts with local businesses. You’ll also have to figure out crop rotations too.

Global Farmer will also include a map editor, for those preferring a custom scenario and not pick a location from OpenStreetMap. Custom maps can be shared via Steam Workshop.

Global Farmer will release on PC via Steam Early Access. No firm release date or release window has been revealed just yet.
