The Capcom Pro Tour has recently taken to China with G-League 2016. Being held a week before the big show that is EVO, not all the big names are present for G-League, like RZR|Infiltration, BST| Daigo and any other major US/EU players. This has open the floor for many other great players a time to shine, with characters we don’t usually see being used as much making the Top 8.
Previous Capcom Pro Tour Premier Event, CEO 2016’s champion Tokido unfortunately lost early on with a loss to HM Eita, only to lose immediately in the next match to TS Poongko in the loser’s bracket. Stunfest 2016 winner Momochi misses out the top 8 spot with lost to GCP Kazunoko.
By the top 8, we have a Zangief (Itabashi Zangief), a F.A.N.G. (Singapore’s RZR| Xian), two Chun-Lis (Humanbomb and HM GO1), a Ken (HM Eita), an R. Mika (RZR| Fuudo) and two Cammys (Qanba Xiaohai and GCP Kazunoko). A pretty diverse list, with what many presumed to be low-tier characters being able to reach this far, it’s an impressive feat.
With all the action, the winner of G-League 2016 goes to the host, as China’s Qanba Xiaohai managed to beat RZR|Xian twice, in the winners’ finals and the grand finals. Despite Xian’s best efforts to throw a curveball and picked a surprise Ibuki for the last match, Xiaohai bested him in a straight 3-0 stomp the best of 5 Grand Finals match.

Xiaohai has now gained automatic qualification to the Capcom Cup later this year. Despite the event being shadowed by the hype of EVO, G-League managed to be entertaining, with interesting matches from the mostly Asian competitors.
