In an interview with GNN Gamer, From Software head Hidetaka Miyazaki is taking the company in a new direction.
Dark Souls III, the latest game of the Souls series, has sold incredibly well, and all of the other Souls game, including Bloodborne and the original Demon’s Souls are now ridiculously popular. Most games now try to incorporate the signature high difficulty and most of its mechanics. Recently, Nioh, which an “Alpha Demo” is now available, is unabashedly a Souls game.
But for now, we won’t see any new Souls game for the moment. Miyazaki said that “there is absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ins.”
Miyazaki confirmed that a new IP is in development, and interestingly, still open to revisiting the Armored Core series. Before Souls hit the mainstream, From Software is most famous for developing the series of mecha action games with ridiculous options to customise your build of a mech.
“Personally, I want to do it. After all, I was involved in three games in the series. Armored Core is one of the pillars of From Software’s lineup. But I cannot yet reveal anything at the moment.”
Miyazaki’s first project with From Software was the production of Armored Core Last Raven on the PS2, one of the best the series has to offer. Unfortunately, the last four (or two if you count the numbered titles only) Armored Core on PS3 and Xbox 360 did not set the world on fire, receiving mixed reviews.
Whatever From Software’s next title will be, it will now for sure have a strong following by just the developer’s name alone. Good to see what used to be a mid-tier developer hitting big and now making AAA games the mainstream now enjoys.
