Do you want more Yakuza this year? If the prequel game Yakuza 0, released in English last January, was not enough then here’s another one. Yakuza Kiwami, the HD remake of the first Yakuza game that started it all, will see an English release on August 29.
Kiwami chronicles the story of Kazuma Kiryu, a normal yakuza member who got himself entangled in various conspiracies- in this case, a murder- within the underground world. And he overcomes most of it with some good ol’ fashion brawling. The game tip-toes between super serious crime drama and super goofy comedy antics while providing hours and hours of playtime with its RPG-like structure. Plus, the beat-’em-up combat feels good to play.
If you never played any Yakuza games before now you’ve spoilt for choice. You can play the Yakuza 0, set before the first game, or wait until Kiwami arrives for the PS4. While the date only confirms the release in US and Europe markets, considering Sega’s record of bringing Yakuza 0 and Persona 5 for English to Asia on the same date of the rest of the world, it’s safe to assume it will be the same date here in Asia.
