Equine Fighting Game Them’s Fightin’ Herds Has Left Steam Early Access, Now Includes A Story Mode

Them’s Fightin’ Herd, the fighting game featuring cute horses and various four-legged animals, has left Steam Early Access.

The indie game by Team Mane6 started out as a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fangame. The game received a cease-and-desist order, but then received help from showrunner Lauren Faust to create all-new characters and a world so the game can stand on its own four feet.

Two years since its Steam Early Access launch, it has finally reached version 1.0, ready for a full release.

For the uninitiated, Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a proper fighting game with a character cast made of various cute animals. The lovely cute artstyle hides a competent-looking fighting game.

It has local and online multiplayer, with GGPO netcode and online lobby. There’s an in-depth tutorial mode for newcomers. And a training mode with all the tools for serious players to lab the game. Plus, there’s also combo and target challenges too.

Version 1.0 also sees the inclusion of the first chapter of Story Mode, which contains “a unique blend of fighting game, RPG, and adventure”. The first chapter focuses on the character Arizona. This is still under development, with more episodes to be added over time for free.

Them’s Fightin’ Herds is out now on Steam for RM32.
