The upcoming remake of 2008’s Dead Space, simply titled Dead Space, has released a launch trailer, ahead of the game’s release.
The trailer sets up the introduction of the survival horror game, as engineer Isaac Clarke and a small crew boards the USG Ishimura for repair duty, only to discover the many horrors within.
Aside from the spectacle of explosions and the brief sights of the Necromorphs, the trailer shows bits where Dead Space isn’t just a 1:1 remake.
Dead Space (2023) is developed by Motive Studio. The developers recently released a blog post outlining how some aspects of the game’s original story will be tweaked around, but the core plot remains unchanged.
Lead Game Designer Catherine Stewart said on the blog: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. For the most part, it was all about leaving alone the beats that made the game so great, and improving the ones that were problematic, where we thought we could do better.”
Some of the changes include Isaac having a voice (he was a silent protagonist in the original, but gets a fully voiced in Dead Space 2 onwards), and as seen in the trailer, Nicole will be more fleshed out.
Dead Space (2023) will be out on January 27 for the PS5, PC (Steam, EA App) and Xbox Series X|S.
