Square Enix secured a deal with Marvel to develop an Avengers game, so far only referred to as The Avengers Project early last year. Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics were named as the team to lead this project, and so far they have been assembling the right team for the task at hand.
Shaun Escayg, the co-director for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy at Naughty Dog, recently left the company to join Crystal D. He now serves as the creative director of the project. Stephen Barry of the now defunct Visceral Games will join him as director of production.
The two headlines the 15 new hires, all veteran developers with past experiences that working on Batman: Arkham Origins and Star Wars Battlefront, and those previously worked at studios such as Monolith and Sledgehammer Games.
“Their AAA experience adds to an already deep roster, making us well-positioned to deliver on the ambitious goals we’ve set for ourselves with The Avengers project,” said Crystal Dynamics’ Co-Head of Studio, Ron Rosenberg.
