So it shall be. Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024 is Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, the next entry to the storied historical 4X strategy game.
The teaser trailer is a mood piece that shows no gameplay, but gives a glimpse of what’s to come in its full reveal later this August.
The narration is in English but is spoken by folks with various English accents, the music has that world orchestra feel that Civ usually evokes, and the imagery has a stonework quality to them as we see a flyover of human history, from early civilization into the space age.
Publisher 2K has made it known for a while now that a new Civ game is in the works, with the creative director of Civilization VI, Ed Beach, reprising his role.
That news was revealed alongside the departure of XCOM series and Marvel’s Midnight Suns creative lead Jake Solomon from developer Firaxis, who has since found a new company to work on a life simulator game.
We will have to wait until August to see gameplay and features in this 4X game. Civilization VII will be out in 2025 for PlayStation, PC (Steam), Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
