Cities: Skylines II Details How Much The Sound Design Is Improved

This week’s dev info drop for urban city-builder Cities: Skylines II shares details on improvements made on the sound design aspect.

You can expect Cities: Skylines II to have more ambience, with buildings and zones propagating dynamic audio that will end up into a cacophony of sounds that makes up the hustle and bustle of a city.

Some sounds only appear when you are zoomed in close to the city. Cars emit different engine noises at different speeds. Emergency vehicle sirens match the city theme you choose. And clicking on a citizen or animal will have a small audio cue, which may or may not be a literal bark.

The radio stations have also been updated a bit. It’s now split between the Public Citizen Radio (with no in-world ads and only PSAs) and various stations on Urban City Radio, with in-world ads. The radio station can play news and PSAs that reflect the current happening of the city, so it can be used to get feedback on how the citizens feel about the city they are in right now. When a disaster happens, all music will be interrupted to make way for announcement regarding the disaster.

The full post on the Paradox Forum goes deeper with the sound, and music, of Cities: Skylines II.

Cities: Skylines II will be available on October 24 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass at launch.
