Bioware General Manager Aaryn Flynn Departs, Replaced By Casey Hudson

Having organisational changes isn’t really a big deal, but for the case of Bioware it may be so. Today it was announced that Bioware general manager Aaryn Flynn will depart from the studio. Flynn was the public face behind Mass Effect Andromeda and the newly revealed Anthem.

Filling in his vacancy is Casey Hudson, former project lead for the Mass Effect series who left the company for Microsoft Game Studios.

Hudson left Bioware three years ago, a period where we saw Dragon Age Inquisition released, Mass Effect Andromeda having development issues and a new IP, Shadow Realm, announced and then cancelled. But after three years working on “disruptive technologies” at Microsoft, he’s going back to Bioware.

“The last few years have been transformative for me, from having time to reflect on what I most want to do, to working with new technologies at platform scale,” Hudson said in a post to the Bioware blog. “And now, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to return to lead BioWare – a studio that I think of as home.”

In another Bioware blog post, Flynn is confident that Hudson is up to the task for the role. “I have been contemplating changes in my own life for some time, but when I heard that Casey had confirmed he was up for the task, I realized the opportunities before us.”

This may seem to be rough times for Bioware, but at least Anthem looks like a promising Destiny-like online shooter. Here’s hoping the new change in management can get the studio back in shape.
