Battleborn Will Be Getting One Last Update Before Active Development Is Ceased

Battleborn will finally see its last update this fall. Gearbox Software confirms that development will be halted of the MOBA-FPS hybrid that failed to catch an audience over its one year lifespan.

This was confirmed by a message from Battleborn Creative Director Randy Varnell on the Gearbox forums:

“As of this week, there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update. Details of any future changes or news will be made on our forums or through social media, so keep your radars on.”

However, Varnell reassures that Battleborn servers will be up “for the foreseeable future” and new content for the Fall update like new Borderlands-themed skins will still be coming.

It’s a long way coming, but at least we know Gearbox has a few games in the works. There’s of course the not-yet-announced new Borderlands sequel that should be a no-brainer, and and for competitive multiplayer they have something in the form of Project 1V1.

This is the second big multiplayer game from 2K that failed to catch on following Turtle Rock Studios’ Evolve. Both games went free-to-play in their last stages of active development before being discontinued.
