ASUS has been long-rumoured to bring its high-end Republic Of Gamers (ROG) brand into the smartphone arena. With the rise of mobile gaming and various manufacturers such as Razer and Xiaomi jumping in with their own high-end gaming phones, it’s the perfect time to do so.
Announced at Computex today, the ROG Phone is basically what you would expect- a gaming phone. It is powered by a 2.96GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the fastest CPU on mobile available in the market right now, with a gaming-optimized Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU. It is the first smartphone to utilise 3D vapour chamber cooling with a detachable cooling fan for extra cooling. For context, vapour chamber cooling was one of the Xbox One X’s biggest selling points- being able to cool the very powerful console while still maintaining a small footprint.
Aside from that, the ROG Phone is equipped with a 90Hz (2160 x 1080) AMOLED screen with HDR support, 8GB RAM, 4000mAh battery, three (count them!) USB-C ports, and programmable ultrasonic sensors- virtual triggers that is not on the screen so you get to see the whole display while still in control.
There will be various accessories available for the ROG Phone, including a Mobile Desktop Dock, Gamevice controller, the WiGig Dock and a TwinView Dock, an extra screen attachment to form it into a clamshell ala a Nintendo 3DS.
Suffice to say this is more than enough for mobile gaming. No word on when will it be out in Malaysia or a price point just yet, but we will keep you posted.
