We all know that Acer’s new venture into gaming hardware has produced some sick and ridiculous machines, but it seems their advances made in the Predator line has trickled down to its mainline Aspire series as well. When we last saw the new Aspire laptops coming to Malaysia, the models where most people would find affordable don’t really do much justice when it comes to gaming. But the two laptops (and one desktop) unveiled at CES 2017 in Las Vegas has a pretty decent specs suitable for gaming, more than ever before.
The Aspire VX15 in particular borrows a lot of the visual design from its Predator brethren with big cooling exhausts on the back and red trimmings around the body (and also the WASD keys). It packs a decent punch with a new 7th-generation Kaby Lake processor from Intel (Intel Core i7-7700HQ to be exact) and a GeForce 1050 Ti for a graphics card. Add a 16GB RAM (upgradable to 32GB) and an option for 512GB or 1TB of HHD space to the list and you got yourself a winner here. Also, it sports two fans for cooling. If it’s close at matching up with the Predator laptop’s cooling which is arguably one of the best in the market, this could be a decent gaming laptop many people can buy.
Pricing starts at $799 USD, or roughly RM3598 which is a pretty decent price for this amount of power.
But if you prefer a more subtle and sleeker design, the Aspire V Nitro series might be a good pick. It comes in 15.6 inch and 17 inch screen variants. The Aspire V Nitro also has an Intel i7-7700HQ powering it, with an option for GeForce 1050Ti or 1060. It also sports 4K resolution, an optional Tobii Eye Tracker, 16GB RAM (upgradable to 32GB), SDD and and up to 2TB of HDD space.
Pricing starts a bit higher here, with the Aspire V15 Nitro at $1,199 (RM5392.50) and the Aspire V17 Nitro at $1399 (RM6292.00).
On the new desktop, the Aspire GX does not have all the specifics revealed, with a promise of an Intel 7th-gen Kaby Lake processor, up to 64GB RAM, and up to a GeForce 1070 GTX. Pricing starts at $899 (RM4043.25).
We will see more information once Acer is releasing these models in Malaysia in the coming months. If the estimated price here translated roughly as the ones for release, it should be a pretty good deal if you need a new gaming rig. More affordable hardware suitable for gaming is what most people here would like to see more.
