Acer Malaysia Launches New Affordable Gaming Laptop, Desktop and Monitors

Gaming equipment has always been a premium, but now we see a trend of having good enough specs for a lower price point than ever before. Today Acer Malaysia just launched four new products that should make you consider having one without ripping apart your wallet too much.

First up is the Acer Aspire VX15. As seen before at CES early this year, this 15.6″ monster shares a lot of similarities with the Predator series in terms of design but with lower (yet still decent enough) specs for gaming. A 7th gen Intel i7-7700HQ, GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4GB VRAM, and a 4GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB (5400rpm) of HDD. Not too bad considering the price point here is RM4,399.

It’s out now in Malaysia and the first 200 units sold will include a SteelSeries mouse, which also include a code for an in-game item for Dota 2.

Next up is the Aspire GX 781 desktop. The sleek black tower includes an Intel i7-7700 processor, GTX 1050 with 2GB VRAM, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, amd a 128GB M.2 SSD + 1TB HDD combo. The desktop sports some red LED lights up at the front and plenty of I/Os, including a USB Type-C port.

The GX 781 will also cost RM4,399. This is only for the desktop though, the rest of the hardware are sold separately.

Speaking of that, here’s some well-priced monitors for those in a budget. The KG series of monitors should provide a good display under RM1,000. The bigger KG271 is the one we saw at the media event, sporting 27″ in size, with AMD Freesync, 75Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time at a respectable 1920×1080 resolution. Frames are thin (or as they like to call it “zero frame design”) which makes the monitor very suitable for a double or triple display setup. The monitor is said to be “tournament ready” for FIFA Online 3, Dota and League Of Legends and are compatible for console use. The KG 271 will retail at RM899.

What we didn’t see was the smaller KG251Q. It’s only 24.5″ and only uses a TN display, with the rest of the specs and design in line with the KG 271, but the price point is attractive: only RM659. We can’t attest to how the display fares up, but that is one interesting price point.

Anyway, during the press event, we got to see the GX 781 desktop and the KG271 in a triple monitor setup running Project CARS (specifically the free Pagani edition). So far the game fares well, running at mostly medium to high settings at what seems like 60fps. We did not managed to screw around with more of the settings (like checking if the monitors are running at 75Hz) but for the most part, impressions are positive. The Aspire VX15 was setup to run League Of Legends and as expected, everything was running buttery smooth.

All those innovations from the top tier Predator line has slowly dripping down the more cheaper line of products. And after a chat with several personnel from Acer Malaysia that is very well the plan. But can it be even lower? Possible, but for now it’s safe to say good gaming gear are getting more affordable now.
