There were a lot of good announcements made during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference today, but one big trend we saw from it was the good amount of games with mechs being showcased.
Of course, Japan is synonymous for bringing giant mechs into popular culture, but we just can’t help but point that there were abundant on Sony’s stage today. Here’s a list of mecha games (or games with mechs) that appeared during the press conference.
Anubis Zone Of The Enders Mars
Konami pulled of a miracle. Now you too can be in the cockpit of Jehuty in VR. Anubis Zone of The Enders Mars will be out next year and developed by [...]
Sega’s Yakuza Studio recently announced a slew of upcoming Yakuza games coming soon last month. But we did not expect one of them to come so soon.
Hokuto Ga Gotoku will see the cast of Yakuza characters playing in various roles of the Fist Of The North Star characters in addition to all-new characters being shown in a new trailer, part of Sony’s press conference for Tokyo Game Show 2017.
The action brawler will be out for Japan in February 22nd. While there is no confirmation of an English release, there was a survey by Sega to gauge interest for this game, as well as the two other Yakuza game announced recently.
Hopefully there’s enough [...]
When it comes to crossovers, Japan is always in the lead. Sega announced earlier this year that its fabled arcade mecha brawler Virtual-On will make a comeback as a crossover game.
This crossover between Sega and Dengenki Bunko made its debut as a light novel, which featured the cast of Toaru Majutsu no Indekkusu (A Certain Magical Index) in 2016. Now we will be getting a video game adaptation in the form of Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On (A Certain Magical Virtual-On).
The game itself looks like Virtual-On but with more anime flourish thanks to the cross-over. Characters from A Certain Magical Index are now piloting those mechs (Virtualoids).
It’s an odd [...]
Yakuza’s spin-off games can be a refreshing take on an old story, like Yakuza Ishin where the cast taking on roles of historical figures near the end of the era of feudal Japan, and really off-beat like Yakuza Dead Souls, a shooter in a zombie apocalypse.
This new spin off is taking a little bit of both. Hokuto Ga Gotoku will see the Yakuza cast taking roles in another IP- the Hokuto No Ken (Fist Of The North Star) series. That means you will be playing as Kenshiro, but with the voice and appearance of Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.
If that sounds odd, maybe this trailer will help clarify things.
Don’t worry, despite having to use the Yakuza cast [...]
Another extreme remake is coming in the Yakuza series. Yakuza Studio has announced another remake and it’s based on Yakuza 2.
Unlike Yakuza Kiwami that’s built on the system from Yakuza 0 (which used the same engine from the PS3 games), this time it will use the new Dragon Engine first seen in Yakuza 6: Song Of Life. That means the game will be 30fps but with seamless transitions into battles or interiors and a richer graphical look.
Like Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2 will also add new content. Loveable madman Goro Majima will be a playable character for a small scenario called “Truth Of Goro Majima”.
The remake has been long in [...]
This is it. Yakuza 6: Song Of Life now has a definite release date. Sega finally decided to get all the Yakuza games localised, which explained the back-to-back releases of Yakuza 0 early this year, Yakuza Kiwami this month and now Yakuza 6- all have been released in Japan for sometime now.
The latest trailer showcased more bits of gameplay revolving our good natured Yakuza man Kazuma Kiryu. Powered by an all new game engine, entering buildings and fighting goons are now all seamless. And as always, expect the balance of brooding melodrama of the main plot- figuring out what happened to surrogate daughter Haruka- while engaging in silly side activities. You can go harpoon [...]
