The PS4K/4.5/Neo has finally a real name: The PS4 Pro. As predicted by many when Sony decided to hold off talking about the it at E3 but later hosting a Playstation Meeting event, Sony took its time to reveal everything about the new console that’s ready for the market. Whatever the official name of Sony’s codenamed Project Neo, the long-rumoured console that is expected to be a more powerful PS4 and will co-exist with the orignal black trapezoid box, we can expect it coming soon. Well, isn’t this surprising? After all the rumours and speculations, the more powerful version of the PS4, codenamed Neo, also referred as the PS4.5/PS4K, is official. Playstation’s Andrew House confirms its existence to the Financial Times and it confirms support of 4K resolutions.
This new PS4 is “intended to sit alongside and complement the PS4”, and costs a bit more than the standard one currently sold. House has yet to reveal the full specs of this new PS4, but what details that have been confirmed so far lines up with what the rumours are reporting in.
The PS4.5/PS4K rumours have been spreading like wildfire. While a hardware refresh seems normal- the were various revisions for the PS3 and Xbox 360 beforehand- but the speculations of higher specs and support for 4K have made an impression that this could be an all new console, with its own exclusive games ala the new 3DS. Recent reports from Giant Bomb have gathered some info up and have provided a clearer picture of what the PS4.5, codenamed internally as “Neo”, is with detailed specs, and interesting tidbits on how Sony wanted developers to handle it.

First caught by the fine folk at Kotaku, sources that spoke to the media outlet outlined the new “PS4.5” as having a better graphics processor and can support 4K resolution in games. This has also earned it the alternative nickname of “PS4K,” and could be in line to boost the performance of PSVR titles.
