As For Honor lines up with more updates to keep the playerbase from shrinking, Ubisoft is offering another chance to check out the melee brawler for free this weekend. The free weekend will be available for the PS4, PC and Xbox One starting August 10. For Southeast Asia, it will begin at 3PM (+8 GMT) August 10 and ends at 7.59PM August 14.
Alongside the free weekend offer, the game will be discounted by 50%. Progress made in the free weekend will be carried over into the full game once purchased.
For Honor will see a slew of new features, including dedicated servers, throughout the year. The strong hype at launch did not make for a consistent playerbase [...]
For Honor, Ubisoft’s melee combat game that looked promising, had a rough time keeping their players interested. In its early months of release the fanbase has not been happy with the way the game handles its netcode- relying only on peer-to-peer connections- and the way cosmetics are earned. And if the reports are true, the playerbase has been diminishing ever since, a bad sign for a multiplayer-focused game.
As always, Ubisoft isn’t stopping development and has outlined a roadmap on what they will be working for the next two game seasons. Aside from adding more content in the form of maps, heroes, gear and cosmetics, there will be adding new [...]
Jason VandenBerghe, creative director at Ubisoft Montreal and the lead behind games such as For Honor and Red Steel 2, has officially left the company to join ArenaNet, famous for their work on the MMO Guild Wars 2.
VandenBerghe explained in a public Facebook post about this new role where he was convinced to make the move thanks to Guild Wars 2 Isaiah Cartwright. His new role at the studio involves will be less directly involved in creating games. “”It’s a big step,” he said.
“I won’t be making games directly any more — I’ll be studio level, shepherding teams and growing people. I’m sort of thrilled about how [...]
For Honor is out, and a lot of people are starting to compare it to fighting games. We share the same impression, after playing the closed beta.
But this interview between Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada and Jason Vandenberghe, For Honor’s creative lead, discusses how similar For Honor feels to a typical fighting game, like Tekken.
Harada talks about how the combat system allows Yomi (the Japanese word that means “reading the mind of the opponent” i.e. mind reads), especially when it’s a fair 1v1 fight where it feels similar to a fighting game.
Vanderberghe also sheds light on some of For Honor’s design, like how the UI indicator for [...]
Warriors! This is your last call to try out For Honor before it’s official release on February 14. Pre-loading is now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s around 18GB of size so you might want to download it ahead of time. The beta starts February 9.
You can find the PC download either in the uPlay client or on Steam here. PS4 players can use the link here for the beta download.
To commemorate the beta, here’s one more trailer for the third-person brawler/fighting game, done in 360 degrees. A neat use of the tech, but it’s all in CGI. Check it out here:
Thankfully, the in-game visuals look phenomenal. You can read up on what we think [...]
Missed the closed beta? Don’t worry warriors, as everyone can join in the fight as For Honor will have an open beta on February 9 until February 12 with a new game mode: 4v4 Elimination (no respawns). That’s pretty close to the launch date which is on February 14, so the “open beta” is more likely a demo of the launch game that will be released in a matter of days afterwards. So it’s probably just an open beta in name only (hence the quote marks). We have seen this happened before with Ubisoft’s other game, Rainbow Six: Siege.
Speaking of Rainbow Six: Siege, it looks like For Honor will follow the business model of its slowly-but-surely [...]
