When first unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 presentation this year, Forza Motorsport 7’s main touted feature is how incredible it looks in 4K which can be experienced on the Xbox One X or a powerful enough PC. Now we have learned another interesting fact about experiencing the game in 4K: it’s one big of a download.
Forza Motorsport 7 will be a 100GB worth of download, making it one of the biggest file size for a game at the moment. To give some context, that will use up 10% of a normal hard drive for the One X (and 20% for the Xbox One S with a 500GB drive). Games of last generation usually floats around 16GB of size to fit a single HD-DVD disc the Xbox 360 used- and up to 50GBs for the PS3 which used the higher capacity Blu-Ray discs. The 4K assets brings the file size up significantly.
With that large of a download, it might be better getting a physical version should your internet speed isn’t that fast or even worse, capped.
Though there is one good news for those who wanted to play this on just the regular Xbox One or One S. According to Stevivor, Microsoft clarified that will only the One X will download the 4K assets.
“Regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S.”
As such, the download and install size should be significantly lower.
No word as of yet how the PC version will handle the download of 4K assets, since PC specs can vary wildly. A good idea would just do an optional free download, like what we’ve seen done for Fallout 4 previously.
